Sharing Secrets

beauty hacks, hair hacks, skincare hacks

Recently, at my 30th birthday party, I asked 30 of my friends to share their beauty tips and tricks with each other. It was such a fun exercise to do, because as you can imagine, it resulted in a lot of laughs and great conversation. Some of the sectors we heard were so off the wall, that all we could do was laugh (and secretly want to run home and try!) Here, I share with you the invaluable information that was passed around the table that night by influencers from the like of blogger Taye Hansberry, TV personality Gretchen Rossi, CBS News Anchor Brittney Hopper, author Rachel McCord, spiritual coach Candace VanDell, and more:

  1. Use baby powder to set your makeup
  2. Put white eyeliner around your lips to accentuate the shape
  3. Apply hemorrhoid cream under eyes to relive puffiness
  4. Exfoliate chapped lips with sugar
  5. Spritz perfume behind your knees and inside your elbows to make it last longer
  6. Make a blowout last by using dry shampoo on the roots in the days after
  7. Mix castor oil and Monistat and put on eyebrows to make them grow thicker
  8. Add cornstarch to any regular nail polish to give it a matte finish
  9. Eat good fats such as cashews and avocados every day
  10. Use the a lighter-than-your-skintone color concealer to cover under eye circles
  11. Use witch hazel as an astringent or toner
  12. Hit your eyelashes with a hair dyer which make your lashes curl easier
  13. Use cold green tea bags to decrease puffiness under your eyes
  14. Hold your hair spray close for a sleek finish; farther away for a tousled, textured effect
  15. Create your own beachy wave texture spray with salt water
  16. To keep eye shadow from falling onto your face, concentrate it with water first
  17. Get rid of static in your hair by rubbing a dryer sheet on it
  18. Crack open charcoal pills and brush with the powder for whiter teeth
  19. Use face masks twice a week
  20. Take makeup off with olive oil
  21. The rough strip on a matchbook can double as a nail file in a pinch
  22. Use your fridge to store eye cream, toners, and astringent
  23. Make your own lip and cheek stain with a few crushed up pomegranate seeds mixed with plain lip balm
  24. Due to its high level of surfactants, Dawn dish detergent is especially successful at removing oil-based makeup stains from clothing
  25. Use coffee filters as oil blotting paper
  26. Use toothpaste to dry out blemishes
  27. Avoid clumps by combing lashes after applying mascara
  28. Spray rose water on face before and then again after applying makeup for a dewy glow
