High Fliers: LAX’s New Private Terminal

If you’re anything like me, just the thought of heading to LAX for a flight evokes automatic anxiety. Even with TSA Pre-Check and Global Entry, the process is just not fun. Enter the Private Suite, which is making that experience a whole lot more bearable.

The Private Suite is an all-new exclusive terminal at LAX that allows passengers to bypass the crowds and traffic of one of the country’s busiest airports. Envisioned by the private security expert Gavin de Becker, the terminal is the first of its kind in the United States, offering members unrivaled ease of travel—including vehicle transfers directly to the runway.

Designed to resemble the experience of private air travel, the Private Suite terminal is tucked away in a guarded compound on the south side of LAX. Once through the gates, departing passengers are escorted from their cars directly to their private suites, where they are checked into their flight and their baggage is taken to the main terminal. After relaxing in their suite—which comes fully stocked with daybeds, food, toiletries, electronics accessories (in case you forgot your iPhone charger), children’s toys, and even emergency changes of clothes (should you spill the occasional red wine on your white shirt)—guests are taken through the terminal’s private security checkpoint, then driven across the tarmac directly to their plane in one of the Private Suite’s fleet of BMW 7-Series sedans. Arriving passengers experience a similar process in reverse. Upon landing, they are driven directly from the plane to their private suite, where they can clear immigration and customs in privacy, as well as refresh and relax while waiting for their luggage and car to arrive.

The Private Suite offers travelers an experience designed to be as all-inclusive, efficient, and painless as possible. Reserving an LAX Private Suite ranges from $1,500 to $4,000 per one-way trip, depending on the size of the suite and membership status. A $7,500 annual membership fee gives members additional perks, such as free massages (yes, please) and free valet, as well as discounted reservation rates.
